How to Submit a Corrected Claim
Overview
If a claim was submitted with incorrect information — such as a wrong diagnosis code, incorrect patient details, or a billing error — you can submit a corrected claim through the Quick Claim provider portal. This article covers when to submit a corrected claim, how to do it, and what to expect after submission.
When to Submit a Corrected Claim
Submit a corrected claim when:
- A previously submitted claim was accepted or forwarded to the payer but contained an error
- The payer has requested additional or corrected information
- You need to update diagnosis codes, procedure codes, rendering provider information, or service dates
Do not submit a corrected claim for claims that were rejected at the clearinghouse level — those should be corrected and resubmitted as a new claim. See: EDI File Rejections — Common Error Codes and How to Resolve Them
Step-by-Step: Submit a Corrected Claim
- Log in to the Quick Claim provider portal
- Navigate to Claims in the left navigation menu
- Search for the original claim using the Claim Reference Number, Patient Account Number, or Date of Service
- Open the Claim Detail view for the original claim
- Select Actions in the top right corner, then choose Submit Corrected Claim
- The claim will open in edit mode with the original data pre-populated
- Make the necessary corrections — fields that have been edited will be highlighted in yellow
- In the Correction Reason field, select the reason that best describes the change:
- Corrected diagnosis code
- Corrected procedure code
- Corrected patient information
- Corrected provider information
- Corrected service date
- Other (include a brief note)
- Review all changes in the Correction Summary panel on the right
- Select Submit to send the corrected claim
What Happens After Submission
- You will receive a confirmation with a new Corrected Claim Reference Number — keep this for your records
- The original claim will be updated in Quick Claim to show status: Replaced by Corrected Claim
- The corrected claim will move through the standard processing workflow — you can track its status using the new reference number
- Most corrected claims are forwarded to the payer within 1 business day of submission
Timely Filing
Corrected claims are subject to the same timely filing deadlines as original claims — typically 12 months from the date of service, though this varies by payer. Check your payer contract or contact SDS Provider Support if you are unsure of the deadline for a specific payer.
Need Help?
If you are unable to locate the original claim, if the Submit Corrected Claim option is not available, or if your correction is related to an EDI-level rejection, contact SDS Provider Support through the Quick Claim portal chat or submit a support ticket.
